The movie theatre was full to capacity for the special viewing of Alive Inside, a documentary film about music and memory. McKenney Home Care brought the film to Southwest Florida as a community outreach and awareness program on November 13.
The film originally premiered in competition at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival and showcases the subject of people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and how music therapy can relieve their suffering. Alive Inside is a 2014 American documentary film directed and produced by Michael Rossato-Bennett. It won the 2014 Sundance Audience Award as well as other national and international awards and has been featured on NPR and other major news outlets.
The evening began with a cocktail reception followed by an opening explanation of the brain and memory by Frederick W. Schaerf, M.D., Ph.D, and Principal Investigator for Neuropsychiatric Research Center of Southwest Florida. Following the film, the audience had a chance to ask questions to panel members Angel Duncan, Healthcare Liaison of Neuropsychiatric Research Center of SW Florida; Ronald T. Garry, M.D., Geriatrician, Naples Premier Concierge; and Dr. Schaerf
