Lewy Body Support Group a Huge Success

McKenney Home Care hosted the first Living with Lewy Body Caregiver Support Group in SW Florida on Wednesday, January 3,  2017.  We are pleased, but not surprised, to report that it was very well attended.  Lewy Body is the second most common form of Dementia and is particularly stressful for Caregivers given the nature of the symptoms.  Though many of the symptoms are similar to Parkinson’s Disease and Alzheimer’s Disease (which is difficult enough) they can be exasperated by frightening hallucinations and delusions, extreme agitation and aggression and paranoia so severe that patients are resistant to care by someone new, often causing a family caregiver to feel imprisoned.
The Caregiver Support Group provides educational materials; but, most importantly, it is a safe place for Caregivers to share their stories and receive  support from other Caregivers of people with Lewy Body Dementia.
If you are caring or have cared for someone with Lewy Body Dementia please feel free to join this Support Group the first Wednesday of every month 1:30 – 3:00pm at 660 Tamiami Trail North , Suite 21, Naples, Florida 34102.  People with Lewy Body are welcome to attend and organized activities will be separately available for them.
The Support Group is approved b the Lewy Body Dementia Association, Inc. and is held in association with the Alzheimer’s Support Network, Parkinson’s Association of SWFL and the Alzheimer’s Association.  For more information contact Deana Levesque at 239-325-2273; deana@mckenneyhomecare.com.
