McKenney Home Care Announces “Living with Lewy Body” Support Group

Mckenney Home Carewill be hosting a Support Group for families and friends of people with Lewy Body Dementia.  The Support Group “Living with Lewy Body” provides an opportunity for caregivers to get the education and support they need while caring for someone with Lewy Body Dementia.
Lewy Body Dementia is the second most common form of dementia after Alzheimer’s Disease.  It is often misdiagnosed and misunderstood.  Symptoms can present similarly to Alzheimer’s Disease and to Parkinson’s Disease.  It is particularly difficult for families because it is often characterized by frightening hallucinations, delusions and often “Acting Out” behaviors, including severe paranoia, aggression and anger.  The Support Group will provide a safe place for caregivers to receive education about the disease and to share their fears and frustrations and to learn from others with similar experiences.
“Living with Lewy Body” Support Group is approved by the Lewy Body Dementia Association in Atlanta Georgia and is being held in association with the Alzheimer’s Support Network, Parkinson’s Association of SWFL and the Alzheimer’s Association.
The group will meet on the first Wednesday of every month from 1:30 -3pm at the offices of the Alzheimer’s Support Network 660 Tamiami Trail N #21, Naples 34102.  Support group members may be accompanied by their loved ones with Lewy Body Dementia.  The first meeting will take place on January 3, 2018.  For more information or to rsvp please contact Deana Levesque at 239 325-2273 or deana@mckenneyhomecare.com.
