Patrice Magrath speaks at Breckenridge Nursing School

Patrice Magrath, Managing Member of McKenney Home Care in Naples, Florida spoke as an invited lecturer to geriatric care nursing students at Breckenridge Nursing School in Ft. Myers today.  Patrice is the former CEO of the International Osteoporosis Foundation and spoke generally on diagnosis, management, incidence, cost and  impact on patients and families.  She explained that one in three women and one in five men over the age of 50 will suffer an osteoporotic fracture in their lifetime.  “I am often questioned if osteoporosis is an inevitable part of aging” said Patrice.  “It is not necessarily so, with good preventative treatment osteoporosis and the resulting fracture cascade can be prevented in the large majority of cases. ”    The Breckenridge Nursing School nursing students were highly engaged and had a strong appreciation for the importance of watching for osteoporosis and potential fracture risk in the patient population they will be serving.
