Collier Citizen Highlights Alive Inside Event

Collier Citizen highlighted Music and Memory in a full page article today alzmovie2_9930254_ver1.0_640_480where it reported on the event Sponsored by McKenney Home Care at Silverspot Theatre on November 13th.  The event was a private showing, free to the public of the movie Alive Inside.
Reporter Lance Shearer enthusiastically talked about music therapy and the dramatic improvements it can make in the life of Alzheimer’s patients.  He also quoted the opening speaker for the event, Dr. Schearf, Principal Investigator at the Neuropsychiatric Research Center of SW Florida, provide statistics on Alzheimers…he said “We are in the midst of an epidemic that has the potential to not only rob us of the last 20 years ofour life, but also to bankrupt the country,”  he said. “Every 67 seconds, someone in America develops Alzheimer’s disease.  That is 40 Americans per hour, 980 Americans a day, 360,000 Americans per year.  As we stand her tonight, 5.4 million Americans have Alzheimer’s disease,” with a projected 13.5 million by 2050.
He also spoke of McKenney Home Care as the only Home Care Agency in SW Florida to be certified as a Music & Memory Agency.
