In addition to videos and manuals, McKenney caregivers are sensitized through the use of the Virtual Alzheimer’s App. This virtual reality experience helps caregivers understand the feelings and experience of those suffering with Alzheimer’s and other forms of Dementia.

Maintaining a Routine
Routine is important for clients with Alzheimer’s or other dementias. Maintaining regular eating, sleeping patterns and taking medications timely and correctly will all contribute to feelings of calm. A Caregiver can prompt a client through the day to maintain the important routines.
Transportation and Managing Schedules
Keeping up with appointments and organizing social outings is important for maintaining good health and preventing social isolation, loneliness and depression. We are able to ensure a client gets to and from appointments, lunches, dinners, movies and shows.
Home Management
Regular housekeeping can prolong a person’s ability to live independently at home. A clean and organized home improves a person’s sense of well-being and therefore there state of mind. We provide light cleaning, changing linens, laundry, washing dishes, trash removal and watering plants.
Meal Preparation and Companionship
Planning and cooking meals and shopping for groceries is difficult or impossible with Alzheimer’s or other dementias. Having someone join you in these activities is not only pleasant, but improves nutrition which leads to a client’s well-being.
In-Home Memory Screenings
Have you noticed a loss of short term memory? Do you have concerns that you might have some form of cognitive impairment? Loss of memory can be a sign of Dementia including Alzheimer’s Disease, but not always. Your memory issues could be due to aging, medication or even depression. McKenney Home Care is now providing Professional in Home Memory Screening to help you get a baseline and to better understand your memory issues.
Angel Duncan has partnered with McKenney Home Care to provide In Home Memory Screening. Angel is a Ph.D. Candidate working towards her doctorate in Psychology with a focus in Gerontology. She has an extensive background in marriage and family therapy, art therapy, teaching and research. Angel has been involved in clinical research trials in Alzheimer’s disease, medical and psychiatric disorders coming from Stanford University and the University of California- San Francisco.

In addition, he has served on the board of directors of the American Cancer Society, Allegheny County Medical Society, Pittsburgh Research Institute, UPMC CancerCenter, Pittsburgh Pain Society, Burger King Cancer Caring Center, Jewish Healthcare Foundation and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Dr. Marks is also on the corporate board of Highmark Blue Cross/Blue Shield, serves on the Credentials Committee of Highmark, and as a professional consultant in Hematology/Oncology for Medicare. He is also a co- founder of the local Juvenile Diabetes Foundation chapter.
